Klaus and his Kompanions marched in something of a box formation, at their centre a wagon pulled by a pair of mules. None of the party sat in the wagon, and the two mules were led on foot by a pair of greatswords. Klaus permitted none of his personal troops to ride, something his greatswords were used to now but which still earned a grumble from the retainers, some of whom still offered the wagon a sulky glance.

Sir John walked with his commander, his feet slathered now in the stinking grease he had refused on his way to Windholm. Any reservations he had about the Mettenheimer had been erased by their earlier action, particularly as the youngster had managed to return to Sarleon without a single Griffon death - a real rarity for most officers.

"Confounded buggers are getting more daring!" Sir John complained, tugging an arrow irritably out of the wide-brim hat he wore against the sun.

"Go make ask Herr Gilaver to make screen, chase them away" Klaus replied, biting off a chuckle as he glanced at the small group of raiders which chanced their luck with against the griffon contingent. They had failed to make any real attack, charging in one at a time and loosing an arrow when in range. It seemed more like a test of bravery than a real assault.

"Yessah" Sir John replied, replacing his hat and tugging it on more tightly.

"Herr Klaus asks you to screen the formation, chase those buggers away!" the greatswordsman called out to the mounted contingent who rode not far away, waving irritably towards the next onrushing raider.

To the West of the Griffins, a contingent of seventeen mounted Red Dawn Knights led by Sir Lucius of Amala continued towards the D'Shar patrolmen, confident in their leader and the Goddess. Thus far, the tribesmen posed little threat to the heavy cavalry--however, the intense heat of these southern lands more than made up for it.

"Form on me!" Lucius shouted to his Knight-Brothers, picking up his pace. "We shall show these men the true strength of Astraea! But remember our true purpose!"

In a matter of seconds, the Dawn transformed themselves from a simple caravan to a fierce formation of mounted knights. With their lances drawn and shields held high, the wedge formation of cavalry charged straight towards the encampment.

However, unbeknownst to the observer, these knights didn't intend to bring harm to the tribesmen if it was possible. They hoped to drive off their opponents without striking down a single man, though Sir Lucius was certainly prepared to aide this endeavor with his infamous silver tongue. Nonetheless, every Dawnite knew the reality.

Gilaver looked down at Klaus' second from top of his horse, trying to figure out what Klaus was after. For a few seconds at least: he put his left hand on his lips and whistled to gain the attention of the cloak-clad knights. Taking a quick look at the tribesmen with more maneuvreable horses, he took a second to contemplate the next action.

"Squad Vincent to the left, and Squad Sadie to the right. Prepare to engage the enemy. Maintain the standard maximum distance from the main wagon. Down any you can, but don't get too far away. The rest of you, take position next to the main party."

Gilaver himself remained in the lead to get a better view of the situation should it escalate.

OOC: 5 Griffons to the left, 5 to the right, going to lance those bastards if caught, but otherwise chase them away. Gilaver and four others take positions around the wagon

The D'Shar camp visibly became more panicked at the sight of the Dawn charge. Men scrambled about and mounted their horses. A few more arrows flew out at the advancing Dawn, but by the time the heavy knights reached the camp, it was empty, the tents and supplies left behind to be plundered.

Not too far away, Gilaver's knights warded against the D'Shar patrol, protecting the slightly more vulnerable infantry nearby. It wasn't much longer before the patrol withdrew, their quivers empty and their ability to inflict anymore damage limited.

Sir Lucius was pleased to see that the Dawn hadn't needed to engage the D'Shar. Once the tribesmen fled the encampment, he signaled to his fellow Knight-Brothers and the tight wedge formation spread out and ceased the charge, wary of exhausting their horses in the desert heat.

"Sir Jofrid?" Lucius asked as they rode through the camp. "Secure the camp and scout our surroundings. See if it's apparent which direction the tribesmen fled. I will search the camp with our Brothers from Windholm." Jofrid acknowledged the order and a dozen Dawnites broke off to carry it out.

The remaining Knights formed a much smaller wedge formation with Lucius at the forefront. "Take only what is absolutely necessary," he commanded. "I want to know as much about this particular horde as possible. Maps, orders, numbers, and the like. Quickly!" Immediately several of the men dismounted and began searching throughout the camp.

Satisfied, Sir Lucius continued to slowly ride through the camp, hoping to find a command tent or anything else of note. He didn't want to waste much time, but an opportunity to gather any information or precious supplies such as water could not be ignored.

Klaus looked on with wry amusement as the raiders dispersed under the threat of the deploying heavy cavalry. It seemed that those horsemen had their uses after all, despite their choice not to fight on foot.

"Giles!" Klaus snapped when the raiders disappeared from sight.

"Go make scout, look in Torbah. Find what is there, look for entrances and people. Make look for place to set camp. It important that it have well, better if it can be make improve for defences."

Giles nodded at his commander, and set off at an easy lope, three other retainers with him. Each man was dressed in loose robes rather than the more formal uniform of the other Griffons, and moved with greater confidence, their eyes always scanning the distance. Klaus's scouts had proved themselves at Windholm and had been given more autonomy apart from the main unit.

Noting the retreating tribesmen, Gilaver nods approvingly behind the light brown hood and turns to look at Sir John.

"I believe this is a sufficient deterrent for any near-future raiding parties. Although, I recommed haste in case they bring more numerous reinforcements. An open terrain like this is advantageous to the more mobile tribesmen."

Gilaver returns to his riding in silence as the Griffon Knights march alongside the wagon, gazing at the area around them, in case the raiders would come back.

Lucius' search, while it did uncover multiple waterskins, wasn't so fortunate otherwise. The camp was small and disorganized. It was likely set up just recently, for some small purpose. It didn't take long for the Dawn Knights to take what supplies they could to replenish and reinforce their own and leave the camp for Torbah.

The rest of their trip was not to be peaceful, however. As their road intersected with another, a large caravan of men, Griffons, by their banners, were walking down the other branch [totally not by coincidence]. What this run-in would lead to remained to be seen.

The Dawnites had been traveling at a brisk pace, spread out but prepared to defend themselves against the tribesmen if necessary. However, as they crested the small hill and spotted those familiar colors, the Dawnites slowed and they immediately tightened into a wedge formation once again. Although Sir Lucius didn't utter a word, the Knights were careful to do nothing more than assume a more defensive stance; they continued to approach at a deliberate pace but didn't draw their lances.

They all knew that after Windholm, any encounter with the Griffins could lead to conflict. Sir Lucius hoped that this could be avoided for the time being. With luck, his helmet would disguise his identity.

Klaus was alerted to the appearance of the Dawn by a nudge and a meaningful glance from Sir John. Accepting the revelation with a nod, he turned to his companion.

"Herr John, make column slow, but not stop. We let Dawn horsemen pass us if they wish. We are on foot so this should not be make difficult."

He then gestured to the nearest retainer and exchanged some words with him. With a smart salute, the youngster sprinted off to the nearby Griffon knights.

Upon hearing the message, Gilaver just nodded and whistled for the Knights to gather around him. Quickly going over the content with his knights, he gives them the appropriate commands.

The retainer returned from Gilaver and told Klaus some things, to which the commander nodded with another glance at the Dawn knights. After exchanging some more words, the retainer moved among the marching column, stopping momentarily at the unit officers.

As the Dawnites continued their slow approach and the two paths converged, Sir Lucius took the opportunity to quietly converse with Sir Jofrid. Once the conversation ceased, the two knights swapped positions, placing Jofrid at the front of the cavalry formation with Lucius immediately behind. Although every Dawn Knight knew who was whom, distinguishing between each man, fully clad in the armor and colors of their Order, was nearly impossible at such a distance.

When they were close enough to the Griffon formation, Jofrid broke the uneasy silence. "Griffon Knights!" he yelled, his Fierdsvain accent quite clear. "We have no quarrel with you! We ask that you permit us to pass you unhindered!"

Klaus raised his fist to halt the column as the dawn knight began to speak. Hearing him out, Klaus then gestured toward the city and replied.

"Pass in peace Dawnite. May your travels make bring fortune to Pendor!"
