Methodius nodded to Sigwald but interjected.

"I got us together but i wouldn't say i lead all of us, regardless i will make good use of your men."

He then turned to Morek.

" They would certainly catch us if we retreat to the castle in the midst of battle, but what do you think about going to the castle now? I don't see us protecting all these refuges in this area."

"Doing so would risk them catching us in an area that favors to their strengths instead of ours. And we have more to think about than ourselves now." He was mentioning the women and children. "I doubt they can move at a quick march and cover as much ground as professional soldiery and knights."

"I can understand your hesitation about this, but if your gauntlets can hold up to Noldori Warriors in the Larian Forests like mine can against the Snake Cult then holding a street against tribesmen should be easy."

Natir after briefing his troops came back to the other knights

"I have sent 2 of my men to watch the horde, we will be notified by a horn before they arrive. I have also sent 2 men to notify, the capital and orders of how negotiations have failed. If we fail to hold them off they will need to know what is coming."

"Get your men off the roofs or make them set up what defenses they can quickly, they will have far more bows then we will and will tear your archers to pieces. You will need to set up defenses and boards on the roofs to stand a chance."

"If you wanted to make a rush for the castle, my men could cause a distraction for the others to make it to the castle. These Jatu are nomads, they have horses, you may have trouble keeping up with them."

"I make guess the meeting did not go well? This is no problem, then we make fight..." Klaus said with a nonchalant shrug as he met the returning officers at the ruined wall. He paused for a moment, looking out across the desert and the horde hidden among the sands.

"Herr knights, if you would permit me make use of your men? I have been doing much work here to make fortify and have a plan in mind..." he continued after a moment with a mischievous smile.

"As you see, we have make ready against cavalry. The road sides are barricades, and we have make fortify these three buildings" he stated, gesturing to each element in turn.

"The large building have two story, on ground will be the Radiant Cross knights with polehammer, and if you permit, the Conquistadores too. I ask this because we can make the inside a hospital for wounded. I will have what supplies I have brought to serve you" Klaus said, glancing at the Radiant Cross contingent.

"Above you, will be my own Korps of Griffon archers. Please divide your crossbows between this building and the three buildings across road."

Stepping away from the walls, he strode to the centre of the road, and gestured now at the three smaller houses, raising his voice so the knights could hear, he continued;

"There, the Gauntlets will fight. I make suggest putting crossbows up on roof and guarding door with your Hammer men, ja?"

He then pointed to a large barricade just beyond the fortified buildings.

"As you can make see, I block the road. I expect the enemy cavalry to charge in here, where this block them. This barricade is make defend by the Dawn and Clarion Call. Stop them from going in city!" he continued, stressing the final command.

"When they are in this space, my Greatswords and I will make attack from behind the ruined walls, closing their escape. They will then be completely make trap inside this space, and we can make much kill."

Returning to the group, he apparently saw the fleeing women and children for the first time he turned to the Griffon Knights and Gilaver.

"Herr Gilaver, please escort these to the castle, and see they are cared for. I leave you there with the Gold Company. Keep watch for signal, we may need reinforce," Klaus finished, clasping his hands behind his back and clicking his heels together. He made another cursory look around, and saw a number of Dragons had returned also.

"Herr Dragons," he said, spitting into the dust, clearly unwilling to give them a place in the order of battle.

Gilaver arrived to the cene just in time to catch Klaus' proposal of battle. He seemed to be rather annoyed by the developments back at the negotiation tents, although whether it was from the negotiations themselves or the duel wasn't very clear. His knights rode in a well-practised formation behind him with their faces hidden behind the desert cloaks. Gilaver looked at Klaus somewhat curiously as if not being very content with something about the tactics presented to him, but decided to let it drop.

"It seems that we have a strong fighting force at ready then. We will head to our destination then, for it might take time to get all of these people to safety. Take care, sir knights."

Gilaver turned away to ride towards the refugees with his knights following behind him.

Noticing Klaus' discomfort, Methodius stepped in.

"Ahem, the Dragons will take position with the Clarion Call to charge the enemy once stuck in between us. As for the Gauntlets position, i think we are better off only using the window panes for ranged attacks, it keeps the element of surprise if they do fall for it and the roofs would make my crossbowmen easy pickings."

He continued on as he saw Gilaver being given his orders

" Are you certain about sending off Sir Gilaver with the refuges? The Radiant Cross already had men assigned to go with them."

Morek nodded in understanding at Klauses words, it was nice to hear that his suggestion had been met with favorable responses. He turned his back on the gathering of commanders and began pointing out gestures that matched the commands.

"Make this street one solid line, pile debris in areas like this here." He pointed at a gap between the houses. "But be sure to leave what rubble that's on the street where it is. Anything that makes their horses a bit less sure footed will give us the advantage."

He then began giving orders to his men, the Bonquistadors tied their horses up as well as they could to remain out of the way and hidden. The Radiant Knights knew of their position in the defenses, on the ground floor while letting the Gryphon longbows flood past into the second floor to make ready fire positons. A few plaguewardens joined them, the others continued to reinforce and block off alleyways.

As Gilaver turned away to follow his orders, Klaus ran after him to add some further commands out of earshot of the others. Returning abruptly, he waved towards the large building and was immediately awarded with a blaring trumpet call. Seconds later, this was answered by another from the direction of the castle.

"The castle has been warned of the oncoming enemy and will make ready. Herr Knights, I will make trust that you can hold your respective position. I had not make think this would be so big an operation. I will be up there with the archers and my signalman. If I see weakness in our line, I will have reinforcements sent to support you. If you need any other assistance, send me messenger."

Looking about him at the preparations being made, Klaus spotted the efforts of the Radiants and answered their commander.

"Herr Radiant, there are some caltrops in the large building, make spread those. I didn't want to risk laying them out until I knew at what speed you would return. I send the Griffon Knights with the refugees because they are cavalry and this will be infantry battle. We need your skill on foot and with medicine here most."

Pausing again, Klaus once again addressed the now dispersing troops.

"Herr knights, I am please that we stand together here. I have seen you fight before, with or against me and I much respect your skill at arms," with that, Klaus smoothly drew his greatsword and holding it vertically before his face he offered a solemn salute, rotating so that each man there would be included. As his eyes reached the dragons, his steely action wavered and he lowered his blade with a frown.

He then took one last look around before making his way to the large building.

A few quick hand motions were all that were needed for a pair of radiant Knights to grab the container of caltrops and haul it down the street, pausing every now and again to spread some. They were careful to create patches in an uneven pattern to prevent the hordesmen from easily picking a way through.

As soon as their task was done they beat a hasty retreat back to their assigned post, darting through the door past Morek who stood just outside it, staring down the road out towards where he knew the horde to be.

Natir understood the plan, but the look on his face gave the obvious impression he wasn't fully happy with it

"This plans is a very good plan to get rid of a small tribe but we are talking about men in the hundreds, my men will not be able to hold them off that long. Plus the Dshar tribes are not going to charge in straight after us into an environment they do not like, unless they are extremely enraged or arrogant. They are more likely to go after the Jatu women and children, they are easier targets while they travel to the castle.  Why would they choose to come after us in the city?"

"Because if they want to get to them they have to get across the river. Which they will do here or kill themselves and their horses by trying to scale dry riverbeds. Either way unless they come after us here the women and children will be far outside their reach."

"I make understand you herr Clarion. If the horde wants to butcher women and children then their lust for blood is high. They will make charge through here. The walls may be ruin, but they are still hard for horse to pass making this the main route to castle. Besides see all the tracks the refugee leave? This is proof enough that their quarry pass through here and they will make chase." Klaus said, pausing momentarily to meet the Clarion Call's comments.

"The raiders, they prize the horses, no? If you want to make them angry, aim for their mount. They will become even more berserk then, and the press of those behind will force the rest forward. If you worry about the weight of enemy make fall on you..." Klaus continued, then halted as he twirled his mustache in thought.

"You have lances, no? Set them in the barricade points facing the enemy. The enemy will rush inside and be, how you say, skewered? They will be broken against you and your men. I know Clarion Call reputation as mighty warriors. Use your knowledge of the enemy and nothing will stand against you. I trust in your skill."

The sound of Jukar's horn is carried by the wind and reaches the knights of Pendor surprisingly clear. It is the same horn that signalled many charges upon Clarion Call patrols and is bound to be recognized by them.

Natir was about to apologize for his confusion, when the horn rang through the air. Natir's first reaction was to look away from the sound of the horn to check for an ambush, satisfied none was coming from the city, he turned to the sound. He knew it. Jatu. "Jukar's horn, whatever you thought was going to happen Sir Morek is happening now. We must hurry time is short."

He indicated for his men to help the Jatu to enter the city and take positions. Though his men were well disciplined, they stood and stared at him for a second, making sure they understood that Natir was asking them to help the Jatu... then followed his orders.

Morek was still staring down the road as the horn rang through the air.

"I don't know if that is a warning about an impending attack or a call for us to aid them. Either way our action must be the same. Hold the line and road. No one gets past us."

Morek took his position on the ground floor of the large building and inspected his troops. The Radiant Knights from his and DeVeers retinues were impassive, polehammers ready to smash, impale, and pull down the enemy. Plaguewardens on the second floor checked their crossbows, bolts, shields, and swords. A few were plastered against the vision slits, looking for the enemies advance.

Methodius looked at the wall entrance and started moving.

"Let's get this started"

He split his men equally in the 3 small houses and put himself in the middle one.

"alright men, hide for now and fire your crossbows on my mark"

The night passed quietly and when the sun had finished her daily climb in the sky the next day, the knights and their men heard nor saw signs of an impending attack. Returning scouts did confirm the suspicions of Sir Morek that Jukar's Jatu met a tragic end, as surmised by the speared heads that now adorned the bridges.

Methodius hung to his sword through the night. The small houses were eerily silent, no doubt due to the Gauntlet tenets of stillness and discipline, a doctrine he was never fond of. His background being that of a noble, he loved to talk and argue in the courts of Laria, to court ladies and ask for their blessing before tournaments.

His Fathers death at the hands of the Noldor prompted him to join the Gauntlets. A somber order that made him give up much of his past...A past he relished. He was respected for his size and strength, but camaraderie wasn't at the core of the order like Hate and Vengeance was... reaffirmed by the silence around him.

He couldn't believe himself, but he kind of missed Rivatha and Gaspar. Rivatha, despite her cold attitude was enjoyable company, Gaspar... well... Methodius wanted to strangle him most of the time, but he was the only person in the Gauntlets that would contest him, many were too engrossed in the monk-like teachings to care, others too afraid of the giant approach him.

Despite both of them being shunned for being the complete opposite of what the order stood for, Methodius kind of had a soft spot for them. Maybe it was because they reminded him of his life before he became the immovable mountain that his order turned him into, a life where his feet weren't chained to the ground...

As he finished his last thought the morning sun shone onto his closed pupils and snapped him into reality. It was that time of the day again, the time to leave his feelings behind and become a Knight of the Ebony Gauntlets.

The hot steppe day passed and the knights in their armor waited, and waited, in vain. It wasn't until all the scouts had returned and some of their men had ugly sunburns on their faces that someone miraculously spotted a black barque float down the river towards the harbor. It was only vaguely noticable against the already setting sun and when the knights had been notified, the only light came from the moon.

If there was to be a battle, it would be before the next day passed. That much seemed certain.

At dawn the horde seemed to have prepared to engage the city and were slowly crossing the bridge and forming up in square formations outside of the city walls.

Natir and some of Methodius' men spot a small force of somewhere around fifty desert raiders, they curse and laugh and seem to have been assured of victory by their commanders. The scouts remain unnoticed by the riding tribesmen and succesfully overhear one particular loudmouth boast about how he would find and slay the remainder of the Jatu men with his bare hands and use the women to warm his tent.

Unmistakenly, they are heading for the castle.

Methodius snapped out of his daydreams and asked additional questions of the scouts before making a final action

"men heading for the castle...? what of the horde forming up outside the city? this is fishy... we will have to send reinforcements to the castle for i fear that Ser Gilaver will not be able to hold against a proper attack"
